Recoiling A Hose Around A Hose Reel:
A good quality hose reel prevents the hose from abrasion, shields it from sunlight to stop cracking from dryness, and, most importantly, prevents tangling as well as kinks for comfortable use. However, wrapping the hose for the first time in a hose reel, this isn’t a walk in the park.
However, the following steps should make hose wrapping in the reel brisk.
Step 1: Hose straightening
Until you have a hose reel, you will keep your hose in the garden most likely- tangled and dirty. So, at first, you will need to straighten the hose. For this, detach the tube from water source valve or sprinklers or any other appliances.
Then slowly, straighten the hose along its length and make sure, at no point, it’s tangled.
Step 2: Knowing the crank handle
For coiling the hose with the reel, you will need to know the crank handle of the spindle and how it operates. It comes in two types:
- A left-handed model with the crank handle on the left side.
- A righthand model with the crank handles falling in the righthand side.
Depending on which crank model of the hose reel you have, position yourself. Now use the other hand (your free hand) to place the tube on the reel. After that, start the recoiling with the crank handle.
Step 3: Creating the first hose layer
Now, it’s time you make the first layer of the hose on the hose reel using the crank handle. You will need to turn the reel either clockwise (for right hand models) or anticlockwise (for lefthanded models). Also, use the free hand to guide the hose all along the reel surface.
As you complete the first layer of the hose, it will look like horizontal coiling. Also, it will go from one end of the hose reel to another and form a stable layer.
Step 4: Continue recoiling the whole hose
Now once again, use the crank handle to recoil the hose on the hose reel. Then, turn the crank handle on the reverse direction to guide the tube for forming the second layer.
You will need to continuously alternate between the right-left and left-right positions to wrap the hose first and then guide it to form the layer. Follow the process until you fully recoil the tube in the hose reel.
